Royal Order of Scotland
Installation of Office-Bearers

2002

The installation of the Provincial Grand Office-bearers, whether appointed or elected, should, if at all possible, be the last item on the Agenda for the Meeting.
P.G.M., *:
I declare all Offices temporarily vacant for the purposes of Installation.
The Provincial Grand Marischal leaves his seat, salutes, and goes to each Office-bearer and collects from hint the Collar of his Office. He takes the Collars to a table in the south-east part of the Lodge. He continues to act as Provincial Grand Marischal until another Brother has been installed or he himself has been re-installed.
The Deputy Provincial Grand Master and the Substitute Provincial Grand Master should be installed first and the remaining Office-bearers thereafter. The same Obligation is used on both occasions. If the Provincial Grand Master shall have waived his rights under Law 79 so that some of the Office-bearers are elected, the word "elected" should be used at the appropriate place instead of the word "appointed".
P.G.MAR.:
Right Worshipful Provincial Grand Master, whom do you appoint as your Deputy and Substitute Provincial Grand Masters?
P.G.M.:
I appoint Brothers ... and ... as the Deputy and Substitute Provincial Grand Masters.
P.G.MAR.:
Brothers ... and ... will you please come forward to the Altar and kneel on the stool.
The Brethren named rise in their places and come forward to the Altar. They kneel and place both hands upon the open Bible.
P.G.MAR.:
Be upstanding, Brethren.
The Provincial Grand Master leaves his seat and goes to the Altar and stands at the east side of it.
P.G.M., addressing the kneeling Brethren:
You will now take a solemn Obligation. State your name at length and repeat after me:
In the presence of the Holy and Undivided Trinity, I solemnly promise to discharge faithfully, zealously and conscientiously, the duties of the Office of Deputy/Substitute Provincial Grand
Master to which I have been appointed, and that I will aid the Provincial Grand Master to the utmost of my power and ability in promoting the prosperity and maintaining the dignity of the Royal Order of Scotland in this Province. So help me God.
P.G.M.:
You will seal that Obligation with your lips once on the Bible. This is done, first by the Deputy and then by the Substitute Provincial Grand Master.
The Deputy and Substitute Provincial Grand Masters rise, and are conducted to the south-east part of the Lodge by the Provincial Grand Marischal.
The Deputy Provincial Grand Marischal brings forward the Collars and presents them to the Provincial Grand Master who invests both Brethren. The Provincial Grand Master places both Brethren in turn in Chairs to the left of the Provincial Grand Master's Chair.
The Provincial Grand Master resumes his seat.
P.G.MAR.:
The following Brethren have been appointed (or elected, as the case may be) as Provincial Grand Office-bearers. I shall now read the names of the Brethren who have been appointed (or elected, as the case may be) as Provincial Grand Office-bearers.
The first four Brethren will place themselves on the west side of the Altar, the next four immediately behind the first four, and so on.
The Provincial Grand Marischal reads out the names of those Brethren who have been appointed/elected and as his name is called each Brother leaves his seat and comes forward to the Altar. When all are assembled at the Altar the Provincial Grand Master leaves his seat and goes to the Altar.
P.G.M.:
The Brethren in the front row will place their hands on the Bible, those in the other rows will place their hands on the shoulders of those in front. Be upstanding, Brethren.
P.G.M.:
You will now take a solemn Obligation. State your name at length and insert the title of your Office at the appropriate place. You will repeat after me:
The Provincial Grand Master administers the same Obligation as is administered to the Deputy and Substitute Provincial Grand Masters.
P.G.M.:
You will seal that Obligation with your lips once on the Bible. This is done.
When those in the front row have sealed their Obligation they move to form a line in front of the Brethren seated in the South Column. Those in the second row come forward, seal their Obligation and move to the West of the line in the South Column. When all have sealed their Obligations the Office bearers will have formed a line from east to west on the south side of the Lodge.
The Provincial Grand Master moves from the Altar to the head of the line and the Grand Marischal brings forward the Collars of the Office-bearers to be invested.
The Provincial Grand Master invests each Office-bearer by placing the Collar of his Office round his neck and congratulating him on his appointment (or election). The Wardens are conducted to their seats after Investiture; the remaining Brethren, after being invested, resume their seats
passing behind the line of those waiting to be invested.
When the Investiture has been concluded the Provincial Grand Master returns to his seat, the Grand Marischal salutes the Provincial Grand Master and resumes his seat.
