Grand United Order of Moses
Ritual of the Passover or Fourth Degree
The lodge room lights should be shaded with red and the regalia gold and
blue. This Degree rev resents the Passover of the Children of Israel Exodus,
12th chapter.
1905
After the lodge room has been set in due form opened and the officers in
their stations, and a little social with refreshments prepared, the C. is
brought in by the R.W. M., not blindfolded, and marched around the lodge room
three times. As he enters the lodge exclaims solemnly: Beware,
Beware, Beware.
Each officer responds: Take heed, Take heed, Take heed.
The C. is invited to eat with the 1odge for about ten minutes. At the same
time have two or three persons outside dressed in b. m. and w. r. At the end of
the ten minutes the R.W.L. rings a s. b.; the disguised persons rush in with d.
s. and seize the C. and ask for his passport. At the same time the lights are
turned down and sounds of crying and mourning are heard all over the lodge room,
and cries for m. and p. y.
The C. is roughly handled for ten minutes when the R.W.L. calls for order,
and the lights are turned on. He reads thus: My fellow travelers to
eternity, I warn you to have the blood of the matchless Lamb, even Jesus Christ,
sprinkled upon the lintels of your guilty hearts, for without it you will
certainly be destroyed.
Lodge responds: Amen, Amen, Amen.
The V.R.W.L. reads to C.: Stranger, hear and your soul shall live.
Death, the destroying angel, is at the door. Have the blood applied to your
heart.
Lodge responds: Amen, Amen, Amen.
All sing:
Alas and did my Saviour bleed,
And did my sovereign die!
Would He devote that sacred head
For such a worm as I?
Was it for crimes that I had done
He groaned upon the tree!
Amazing pity! Grace unknown
And love beyond degree!
But drops of grief can ne’er repay
The debt of love I owe;
Here, Lord, I give myself away,
‘Tis all that I can do.
After singing this hymn the C. is brought before the R.W.H.P. who reads a
part of the 12th. Chapter of Exodus and charges the C. to take the most earnest
heed and to obey the divine injunction and the rules and regulations of the
order.
The C. answers: All this will I do. God will me so to do. C.
