Dit amerikaanse rituaal dateert uit de tweede helft van de negentiende eeuw.

Sign. Cross the arms on the breast, having the hands closed but the thumbs stuck out.

Grip. The right hand being shut with the thumb raised, is mutually presented the first one takes the thumb of the other, turns the hand over and says alternately these three words, BERITH, NEDER, and SCHELEMOTH. Then he takes the right hand of the other and presses three times with the thumb on the first joint of the middle finger.

Knocks. Twelve equal knocks.

Insignia. Blue tunic, red sash with gold fringe, black ribbon worn crosswise, on which are embroidered three flaming hearts.

Pass word. STOLKIN (running water) and AMAR-IAH (word of God).
